But seriously, there are several good reasons to have a connected brush and it’s all about helping you brush your teeth better, longer and more regularly.

The Oral B SmartSeries 7000 is complemented by a companion app that guides you in real-time for more effective brushing.

Once you’ve downloaded the Oral B app – available now on iOS and on Android by the time the device is in stores in October – you can pair the power toothbrush to your device and get started.

Users can get real time guidance when brushing their teeth with the Oral B SmartSeries 7000 Bluetooth power brush

The app has a two-minute timer that directs you to clean each quadrant of your teeth for 30 seconds.

To help you while away the time, the bottom half of the screen presents the latest news headlines, featured photos, quotes, the weather and your next three calendar appointments.

The length of time you brush is saved in the app’s memory so you can keep track of how often and how long you’re brushing.

The Oral B SmartSeries 7000 Bluetooth toothbrush can also store up to 20 brushing sessions and transfer the data to the app the next time it’s connected to your smartphone.

You can even unlock achievements and earn trophies when you hit different brushing streaks and establish regular habits.

After all, we are wearing activity bands and fitness trackers to see how well we’re sleeping and how well we’re exercising so naturally Oral B thought it was a good idea to help us keep track of our dental health.

But the app is more than just a fancy timer. Because the Oral B toothbrush is paired with your smartphone it can also detect when you’re applying too much pressure.

It also offers tips on better brushing and set reminders to floss and use a fluoride rinse. The app also has a wealth of information on oral care tips.

It’s also possible to set up focussed care zones that need additional care – usually on the recommendation of your dentist.

This means certain problem areas can get the extra attention that’s needed.

Users can also receive personalised dental care plans from their dentists through the Oral B app and also search for dentists in their area.

The Oral B app also sets reminders and can pin point focus areas that need extra brushing

The Oral B SmartSeries 7000 Bluetooth toothbrush has an oscillating-pulsating-rotating brush head that can remove 100 per cent more plaque than a manual toothbrush.

It also has six different cleaning modes – daily cleaning, deep clean, whitening, gum care, sensitive and tongue cleaning.

There are also six different brush heads available – crossaction, precision clean, 3D white, sensitive, floss action and tri-zone.

The pressure sensor not only shines through the connected app on your smartphone but also on the handle of the toothbrush itself.

You’ll see a red flash and the brush will then decelerate when it senses you’re brushing too hard.

The Oral B SmartSeries 7000 Bluetooth toothbrush is priced at $329.99 and will be available in October from the Shaver Shop, Harvey Norman, Myer and David Jones.

Oral B’s Bluetooth toothbrush can help you avoid having a blue tooth.
