Modern technology gives us many things.

Linksys launches faster WRT1900AC 802.11ac wi-fi router

linksyswrt2Linksys has released its latest and greatest consumer wi-fi router – the WRT1900AC – in Australia for faster and wider wireless coverage in the home.

We rely on wi-fi so much in our homes nowadays and the demand for speed and range is increasing.

This is because we’re using mobile connected devices like smartphones, tablets and laptops in areas of our homes where we’ve never accessed the internet before like the backyard, the bathroom, the bedroom and in front of the TV.

The Linksys WRT1900AC can tick all of those boxes and offer excellent coverage throughout your home.

It is the device’s design combined with the fact it is using the latest 802.11ac wi-fi standard that sets the router apart.

The Linksys WRT1900AC router includes a USB 3.0 and eSATA port to connect hard drives or printers

On the design side, the WRT1900AC looks like it means business. It has bold styling with hard lines and angles along with four antennas.

And it’s not small – it has a decent footprint at about 25cm wide so it’s going to need a little desk space.

It’s not meant to be positioned on its side but you can mount it on the wall.

It is the first consumer grade wi-fi router to feature four antennas for increased coverage.

The WRT1900AC uses antenna diversity technology that automatically selects the best three of the four antennas to optimise the data connection with greater range and coverage.

And this is helped along with the fact the device is using 802.11ac – the new wi-fi standard that is up to three times faster than the older 802.11n standard.

It is a dual band router with two networks created – a 2.4Ghz and a 5Ghz network with speeds up to 1.3Gbps.

The Linksys WRT1900AC also has pretty impressive specifications under the hood including a 1.2Ghz dual core processor, 256MB RAM and 128MB onboard flash memory.

There’s also a USB 3.0 port to connect an external hard drive or a printer. But there’s also an eSATA port that can connect an external hard drive as well.

So effectively you could connect two hard drives and share their contents on your network and also access them remotely.

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi app makes it easier to control your network

Set-up is simple and it’s easy to change the name and password of the networks using a browser or with the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi app.

From here you have complete control of your new network and can see what devices are connected and even prioritise bandwidth for devices.

Users can also access parental controls and block access to certain sites and also block internet access at specified times.

The Linksys WRT1900AC wi-fi router is available now and is priced at $299.95.
