Kindle Fire HD now available in Australian stores

kindlefire1Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD – the high definition colour 7-inch tablet – is finally on sale in Australian exclusively through Dick Smith stores.

This is the first Kindle device to be produced with a colour display instead of the usual monochrome e-ink screen found on previous models.

The Kindle Fire HD has a 1280 x 800 resolution HD screen and is your portal to a wealth of content that extends beyond just books to include magazines, apps, games and audiobooks.

The product weighs 395g and measures 19.3cm long and is 13.7cm wide.

The device’s screen has a polarising filter and comes with proprietary anti-glare technology so users can enjoy the device inside and out.

The touch sensor and the LCD panel are laminated together into a single layer of glass with no air gap and this creates a display that is easy to read even with a strong overhead light.

And with IPS (in-plane switching) the screen looks bright and vibrant at an angle whether you’re reading in bed, in the park or watching in movie with a friend.

The Kindle Fire HD has 16GB of internal memory with dual antenna wi-fi so it can switch to either the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz frequencies for a faster connection.

On the audio side you’ll hear the Dolby Audio dual-drive stereo speakers for great sound.

And you’ll be able to access all of the most popular apps including Facebook, Twitter, Angry Birds, Spotify, Cut The Rope and many, many more.

Other content includes books, of course, and magazines plus audiobooks. Movies and other video content can also be accessed through local Australian services.

You can also keep in touch with friends and family with the front-facing camera for video calls Skype.

There’s also email on board along as well as Facebook integration so its easy to connect to the social network from anywhere on the device.

It’s also possible to access cloud storage services to view photo albums and other data.

The Amazon Cloud Drive has a Mac or PC desktop application to upload photos directly from your computer to enjoy on the Kindle Fire HD tablet anywhere.

And if you want to share your favourite videos and images on a larger screen it’s as easy as connect a cable between your TV to the HDMI out port on the Kindle Fire HD.
