iBGStar device and app helps manage diabetes anywhere
A new iPhone app and accessory from leading healthcare group Sanofi has transformed the way more than a million Australians can manage their diabetes.
The iBGStar is an innovative blood glucose meter that connects to an iPhone or iPod Touch through the 30-pin dock connector.
For a diabetic, measuring and monitoring their blood glucose several times a day is important and a device like the iBGStar means it can be done anywhere – at home, at work or on the go.
A dedicated app also compliments the iBGStar device so results can be stored and graphed and even emailed directly to a doctor or a parent.
The device itself weighs no more than a biro at just 8g and has a small slot for the user to insert their test strip.
Data is processed in just six seconds on average and then displayed on the accompanying iBGStar Diabetes Manager app.
The device can actually work on its own without being connected to the iPhone or iPod Touch and still store up to 300 test results along with the date and time they were recorded.
When it works with the app, the iBGStar allows users to store years of results and add notes to each of their readings including the types of foods eaten and activities completed at the time of the test.
The app also allows visuals graphs and tables to easily track results at a glance along with colour-coded scorecards for easier identification of high and low blood glucose levels.
Diabetes is a long-term disease that occurs when the pancreas can’t produce enough insulin – the hormone that regulates blood glucose concentrations – or when the body can’t effectively use the insulin it does produce.
The iBGStar is available now for $99 from pharmacies across Australia and the iBGStar Diabetes Manager app is free from the iTunes App Store.
