One of the first things expectant parents buy is a baby monitor to allow them to listen in on their sleeping child from another room.

But now a 99 cent app for the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch can turn two of these devices into a monitor that can not only let you hear your baby but see as well.

With Baby Video Monitor you choose which of the devices is the baby unit – the one to leave near the baby – and the parent unit – the device used as the monitor.

Users only have to pay for and download the app once before sharing it with their other iOS devices.

Baby Video Monitor utilises the camera on the device chosen as the baby camera and audio unit.

Keep an eye and an ear on your baby with the Baby Video Monitor and two iOS devicesIt provides a clear view of your baby when device chosen as the baby unit is positioned with a clear view of the baby.

At the other end the parent can carry their device around the house and have an easy and convenient way to check their child.

It’s possible to do other tasks on your device while still listening to the baby but a single tap on the red bar at the top of the screen takes users instantly back to the video feed.

The feed also has a timer so you can easily check how long the baby has been asleep – handy if you’re trying sleeping routines and setting time limits before comforting your crying child.

The app sets up a wireless device to device connection so it doesn’t even need a dedicated wireless network to connect to one another.

It’s also possible to provide a phone number so the app can call you if it detects a sound. This is also a handy feature if you have only one iOS device to run the app.

The Baby Video Monitor app is available now for 99 cents at the iTunes App Store for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
