TV viewing habits of the 21st century revealed
Despite the many online services and content choices, research by Yahoo!7 has revealed most of us still like to watch TV live and tune in at set times.
For 98 per cent of viewers, appointment-based TV is still dominating our viewing habits even though there are many ways to catch-up and download programs after they have been aired.
And we’re watching TV on a number of devices with 67 per cent of respondents tuning in on a laptop, smartphone or tablet.
Even when we are sitting in front of the TV, 88 per cent of viewers have another device by their side including a smartphone or tablet (82 per cent) or laptop (61 per cent).
For 58 per cent of viewers they watch their favourite shows via online catch-up TV while 40 per cent engage with TV programs online to make the experience even deeper.
Social media has also become a huge influencer for viewers with 40 per cent finding out about a program through a mention or recommendation on social media.
“Yahoo!7 is committed to bringing users the best product and the most immersive digital experiences, personalised to their interests, across screens and platforms,” Yahoo!7 spokesperson Caroline Casey said.
“When we talk about companion experiences, we’re not just talking about what happens when the program is on air, we’re also talking about how we sustain, build and engage our audiences with the programs they love.”
