LG redefines the TV with the new OLED R – the world’s first rollable OLED TV

LG has started the Consumer Electronics Show with a bang after unveiling a stunning world-first product – the Signature OLED R – a rollable OLED 4K TV that you can put away when you’re not watching it.

The game-changing OLED R completely redefines our idea of a TV which for years has been increasing in size and taking up more and more space in our homes and on our walls.

Now the screen can magically appear when you want watch TV and then roll up out of sight when you’re done.

LG has always been the leader when it comes to OLED displays and the company’s engineers have utilised one of its most interesting features – the fact that is it bendable and rollable – and produced a 65-inch TV that elegantly rises out of a cabinet that’s slightly larger than a soundbar.

The cabinet has a brushed aluminium finish with a quality wool speaker cover.

And when the head-turning OLED TV R is fully extended, it delivers the same stunning black levels, brilliant colour and picture quality we’ve come to expect from LG’s OLED TVs.

The 4K TV liberates viewers to place the TV where they want whether it’s in front of a wall or a window – knowing they can use that space as they please with the OLED R because it can just as elegantly roll back up and descend out of sight into the cabinet when you’ve finished watching TV.

There are three different viewing options with the OLED R – Full View, Line View and Zero View.

In Full View, the LG OLED R is fully deployed to its entire 65-inch size and height so you can watch the television as you normally would.

Line View offers a third of the TV that is still visible outside the cabinet and still have a clock, frame, mood or music you’d like to play through the 4.2 channel 100W front firing Dolby Atmos speaker system built into the cabinet.

And Zero View is when the entire 65-inch OLED R screen is rolled up and out of sight. So you can enjoy the open space, your décor or the view out your window.

The LG OLED R is powered by the Alpha 9 second generation intelligent processor that brings AI and improved sound quality to the TV.

The circuitry and TV’s inputs are located on the rear of the cabinet in the lower corner.

There’s also support for Amazon Alexa so you can get things done with your voice.

The TV will also support AirPlay 2 to allow customers to link their iPhones, iPads and Macs to the screen and also control the LG TV using the Home app or by asking Siri.

The LG OLED R will be available in Australia in the second half of 2019.

Pricing has yet to be determined.
