Dutch police have come up with an interesting and low tech solution to take down illegal drones flying above airports or posing a threat to the public – by training eagles.
Drones have become an increasing problem in the Dutch skies so the local police decided the best solution was to train eagles to bring them down.
Dutch Police officers in the “Guard From Above” unit have been training to work with the eagles who see the drones in the same way they would see prey.
Once the drone is intercepted, the eagles brings it back to the ground trapped in its claws.
A number of successful trials have been conducted since the start of the year and the Dutch “flying squad” is expected to be active in the coming months.
