Samsung releases teaser videos ahead of its Galaxy S9 smartphone launch

The anticipation ahead of the release of Samsung’s new Galaxy S9 smartphone is building and the company has added fuel to the fire with some teaser videos hinting at some of the device’s new features.

Samsung will officially introduce the Galaxy S9 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 26.

There has been no shortage of rumours and even leaked product images about the highly anticipated new smartphone.

But this week Samsung Mobile Korea released three videos which appear to showcase some of the abilities of the S9’s camera.

Much of the hype from Samsung ahead of the announcement has been about the camera.

In fact, the launch announcement had the words “The Camera. Reimagined”and it seems that’s exactly what the company has done.

The first video shows a number of fast moving objects including a jet, a skateboarder, a cheetah, a rollercoaster, a train and a man in a flying fox suit zooming across the sky.

But then the number 9 appears and flying fox man is suddenly in slow motion inside the circle of the 9 which to us indicates a new slow motion feature.

The next video shows a number of scenes shot at night with the last image of an illuminated deer, again inside the number 9, which implies the camera has improved lowlight performance.

The last video shows a man in various situations including playing a game, on a rollercoaster, at the hairdresser, at a birthday party, at the movies and in the gym before turning into an emoji.

This suggests the front facing cameras, rumoured to be for a sophisticated new Face ID feature, may also be used to animate the user’s face into an emoji.

Apple rolled this out as one of its quirky features for the iPhone X which used the front facing camera to create animal emojis which are animated by the user.

There have been a flood of rumours about Samsung’s new Galaxy S9 which will reportedly have a 5.8-inch display and a larger 6.2-inch screen on the S9+.

On the design side the devices will look only slightly different to the S8 but will retain its almost bezel-less design.

Storage wise there will be 64GB on the S9 and 128GB on the S9+ and both will be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor

Leaked product images show a single lens 12 megapixel rear camera on the smaller S9 and a dual lens camera on the larger S9+.

The fingerprint reader has also reportedly been relocated to the centre of the rear panel as well.
