NRL and AFL Grand Finals will be broadcast in high definition

It’s a big weekend in sport with both the NRL and AFL Grand Finals and the good news for those planning on watching from home is that both matches will be broadcast in high definition.

Channel 9 and Channel 7 will telecast the NRL and AFL Grand Finals respectively on their high definition channels.

For Channel 9 with the NRL Grand Final between the Brisbane Broncos and the North Queensland Cowboys – the match will kick off on Sunday at 6.30pm and can be seen in HD on Gem (Channel 90).

On Channel 7 on Saturday the AFL Grand Final between the West Coast Eagles and the Hawthorn Hawks will kick off in HD at 2pm Sydney time on 7Mate (Channel 73).

“This is a great outcome for our fans who watch the game at home this weekend,” NRL CEO Dave Smith said.

“They can now enjoy the best picture quality for the biggest game of the year.

“This is another first for our fans – it’s the first Grand Final with two Queensland teams and it will be the first ever broadcast in high definition.”

Recently the government announced it would be changing the digital free to air regulations to allow the free to air channels to broadcast their primary channels in high definition.
