Vodafone doubles monthly data allowances on mobile plans
Vodafone is putting the pressure on Telstra and Optus this summer by doubling the data amounts of their popular month-to-month and 12 and 24-month plans.
Customers with a $45 and above month-to-month plan or $60 or above 12 and 24-month contracts will have their data allowance doubled.
For example, if a new or upgrading customer decided to move to the $60 12 or 24-month plan between now and January 3, 2014, the existing 1.5GB allowance would be increased to 3GB.
“There is an unfortunate industry trend to cut data allowances as a way of exploiting greater consumption, but we’re not going to run with the pack,” said Vodafone chief marketing officer Kim Clarke.
“We know our customers are using 61 percent more data than they did a year ago and that’s 50 percent more than the national average.
“Our customers have a huge appetite for social media, photo sharing, watching videos and streaming music and we want to give them the freedom to do that.
“We have increased our data allowances this year while the others have sat on their hands or gone backwards.”
The Vodafone offer to new and existing customers who upgrade will see some generous data allowances.
For the $45 month to month plans or the $60 contract plans the minimum data allowance will now become 3GB.
When you go all the way up to the $100 plans that data allowances goes from the included 5GB amount to a massive 10GB per month.
The Vodafone double data offer is only available for mobile customers and not to iPad data and mobile broadband plans.
