Here in Australia there are numerous ads for sports betting – TAB SportsBet, CentreBet, Sporting Bet and Tom Waterhouse.com – which all boast the ability to place a bet through mobile apps.

Juniper Research’s feedback from bookmakers during this study showed mobile devices – smartphones and tablets – will compromise more than 40 per cent of sports bets.

In-play betting – betting on the game while it is being played – is also being viewed as a key driver for mobile betting.

Other key findings from the Juniper Research show native apps will be the key mechanism to engage gamblers.

The take up of mobile casino-style gaming is set to increase in the US after a landmark ruling from the Department of Justice re-opened the market for remote gamblers.

By 2017 wagers via mobile devices across all forms of gambling will top more than $100b.
