Apple’s iPhone 4S is now available for pre-order through the Apple Australia website ahead of the October 14 release.

Customers can choose their colour – black or white – and the capacity – 16GB ($799), 32GB ($899) or 64GB ($999).

The device will be shipped for free after release and will be unlocked so it can be used on any network in Australia.

Shipping time is listed as 1-2 weeks but considering launch is still a week away it will probably arrive on your doorstep a few days after it goes on sale.

The iPhone 4S was unveiled earlier this week at a special event at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters.

The device has the same design as its predecessor  – the iPhone 4 – including the 3.5-inch high res retina display and thin design.

But under the hood there have been a few changes including a faster dual core A5 processor – the same one found in the iPad 2 – along with an improved 8-megapixel camera.

The standout new feature is Siri – the voice activated digital assistant – which can help you find information, dictate text messages and emails and make  and arrange calendar appointments simply by talking to the iPhone 4S.

Also on board the iPhone 4S will be the new iOS5 operating system and the ability to access iCloud – to share and back up your apps, music and documents on all your iOS devices.

You can ore-order the iPhone 4S here.
