Apple announced more than four million iPhone 4S were sold after just three days – double what the iPhone 4 sold in its opening weekend last year.

There are also more than 25 million iPhones now running the latest iOS 5 – Apple’s latest mobile operating system – after just five days of release.

More than 20 million have also signed up to iCloud which wirelessly stores your content and distribute it to your other devices.

“iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

“iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever.”

The iPhone 4S was released in Australia, US, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany and France on October 14.

On October 28, the device will go on sale in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
