Celebrities drove most of the search queries but there were also a number of events and subjects which also drew our attention.

On the celebrity front we couldn’t get enough of Miley Cyrus and her provocative and controversial music clips and on-stage antics.

Kim Kardashian was also very much on our search radar with people curious to find out more about her new baby North and her relationship with music star Kanye West.

The male celebrities who got us searching on Yahoo!7 were heartthrob singer Justin Bieber and popular actor Matt Damon.

Of course, major events like the Australian Federal election also ranked highly with searches for Kevin Rudd proving more popular than the election result itself.

And sport was also popular online with the 2013 AFL Grand Final, the Ashes Test series and the Australian Open tennis tournament at the top of the list.

Tennis player Novak Djokovic was also the most searched athlete.

Other topics that ranked highly include Minecraft – the popular game that is enjoying a resurgence after being discovered by a new younger audience.

Boy band One Direction got many teen girls typing into the Yahoo!7 search engine as did popular singer Rihanna and actress Jennifer Aniston and the continuing speculation about whether she’s pregnant or married or both.

The Royal Baby and future king Prince George also made the 2013 list as the world waited for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s first child.
