Sony slashes price of PlayStation 3

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia today announced it was slashing the price of the PlayStation 3 console by $150.

From Monday August 22, the PlayStation 3 160GB will be priced at $349.95 with the 320GB version of the PS3 also coming down to $449.95.

Also announced was a cheaper PlayStation Portable (PSP) which offers access to the entire PSP game catalogue and which will be priced at $139.95.  

The cheaper PSP will be released in November with no wi-fi connectivity and a slightly different look.

Also revealed were details of the PSP’s big brother- the PlayStation Vita portable gaming device which is due in early 2012.

There will be dedicated Vita apps for Facebook, Twitter and Skype along with a feature called “near” which will allow users to see what friends in the vicinity are playing and “Party” – a pre-installed voice and text chat app.

Software titles confirmed for the Vita include exclusive PlayStation franchises Resistance Burning Sky and LittleBigPlanet.
