Nintendo DS Australia’s highest selling console

Nintendo’s DS was the biggest selling console in Australia in 2010, according to figures released by GfK Retail and Technology with sales of more than 520,000 units.

This is the fifth consecutive year since 2006 the Nintendo DS – which includes DS, DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL – has marked this achievement.

In December, the Nintendo DS also became the biggest selling video game console of all time in Australia with more than three million sales.

The Wii also achieved a milestone in November with sales surpassing two million for the first time.

It took the Wii 47 months to reach this figure making it the fastest selling console of all time.

The Nintendo DS previously held this record after selling two million units in 52 months.

The Nintendo Wii consoleAccording to GfK’s figures the Wii also took the title of highest selling home console in 2010 with 420,000 units.

In the 2010 calendar year there were more games sold for Nintendo platform than any other which accounted for 47 per cent of the software sell through market.

On March 31 Nintendo will release the latest incarnation of the DS – the 3DS which offers a 3D display which can be viewed without glasses. It will be priced at $349.95.
