Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer unveiled
The objective of offering a more balanced online experience for players of all skill levels has led to many of the changes.
The first is Killstreaks which have now been changed to Pointstreaks. In the previous version it wasn’t unusual to see a player dominate the game and then engage his killstreak rewards and dominate it even further.
With Pointstreaks players are rewarded not just for racking up a body count but also for the contribution they make to the team with objetives, assists and capturing flags.
Pointstreaks have been divided into three classes to suit various styles of play – Assault, Support and Specialist.
Some of the changes made by publisher Activision and game developer Infinity Ward are not what has been added but rather what has been taken away.
Last Stand, a perk which gives wounded players the option of pulling out a pistol while they’re on the ground to fire at their attacker, has been removed.
Also gone is the Commando perk which made players able to melee faster and from further away from their opponent as well as jumping off buildings without sustaining health damage.
When Modern Warfare 3 is released there will be 16 multiplayer maps on the disc which will be set in various major cities including London, Paris and New York.
One was set in an underground train station, a shopping mall and desert outpost.
Weapon proficiency will also now have its rewards in Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer.
Now as players get better with each weapon they will be able to upgrade and improve it.
Players can add various attachments like red-dot sights, extended mags as they could in the earlier games but now also have the option of altering the weapon’s behaviour.
For example, they can choose to reduce the recoil, increase accuracy while firing on the run and add more than one attachment at once.
Speaking of attachements one interesting change is the hybrid scope mode which means players can put two different scopes on their gun and easily switch between them to suit the situation.
There will also be a new type of game called Kill Confirmed to go along with regulars like Team Deathmatch, Domination, Ground War and Capture The Flag, Search and Destroy and Free.
In Kill Confirmed a pair of dog tags hang above the killed players and other players have to collect the tags to confirm their enemies kills and deny the kills of their own teammates.
The social side of the game has also been given a boost with the ability to invite players to your matches from Facebook.
Call of Duty: Elite – a new online service to mix with other players and improve your gameplay – will also be supported by iPhone, Android and iPad apps.
This means players can examine their matches, check their proficiencies with various weapons and even view training videos on the go.
The app allows players to even change their weapons and perks load outs so that when they get back to to the game they will already be place and ready to use in a match.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released in November 8.
