Take a look at the B’Safe vest – it’s an airbag for cyclists
We’ve heard of airbags in cars, but how about an airbag for cyclists? That’s exactly what we saw at CES Unveiled – it’s called B’Safe and it’s a smart airbag vest that can be worn by cyclists.
The product is designed to protect cyclists in the event of an accident.
It features two sensors – one inside the vest itself and the other placed just below the bicycle’s saddle.
The B’Safe bicycle vest uses a smart algorithm which can follow your motion pattern and detect an accident in 80ms.
In that time, a CO2 cartridge fires and instantly inflates the vest to provide protection for your neck and thorax and also your back.
The vest is completely reusable and only requires a replacement CO2 cartridge.
It is sensitive enough to detect when you’ve had a spill off your bike with no one else involved and it will inflate before you hit the ground.
If you’re involved in an accident or struck by a car, the sensor installed underneath the bike’s seat can send a signal to the vest to make it inflate immediately.
We watched a live test of the B’Safe at CES Unveiled where a man simulated falling off a bike and the vest inflated before he landed on the ground.
B’Safe is a product from French manufacturer Helite which last year released a hip airbag for seniors to protect them in the event of a fall.
The B’Safe Vest Bicycle Airbag will go on sale in the coming months.
