Modern technology gives us many things.

How Eugene can sort your trash and help you recycle more

When it comes to recycling, not everyone is across the best ways of disposing their trash in the right way which is where a new device called Eugene comes in. It can tell you how to recycle before you put the item in the bin.

Often people who are unsure of whether a product can be recycled will, more often than not, just put in the bin.

But with Eugene you’ll never miss this opportunity.

Users are encouraged to locate the device near your trashcan.

It has a screen and a bar code reader so if you’re unsure of what to do then you come to throw out the packaging.

Tech Guide had a hands-on look at Eugene at CES Unveiled in Las Vegas.

We scanned an empty box which had an empty plastic wrapper inside.

Eugene identified there were two parts to the product and advised that the plastic wrapper needed to go in the trash and the box could be recycled.

If you recycle enough of the products, you can earn discounts in some markets. So that means you’re being rewarded for recycling.

The companion app will also remember what you’ve recycled so you can be reminded to add them to your shopping list.

And when you scan products, it reveals the quantities and ingredients so you can easily analyse your consumption

Eugene will be released in the US and the UK in the coming months.
