Nikon Australia has just announced its latest range of CoolPix digital cameras designed to suit entry-level users right up to the enthusiast.

There are updated models in the L-Series, P-Series and S-Series line-ups.

Among the new features are backside illuminated CMOS sensors for better pictures in low-light conditions, new image processing engines and in-camera editing functions.

New in the L-Series are the L23 and the L120.

The L23 is a good starting point for the digital photographer with 10.1 megapixel resolution and a built-in 5x optical zoom. There’s a 2.7-inch LCD screen and automatic shooting modes.

It can shoot at focal lengths starting at the wide angle 28mm to allow photography of larger objects and groups from closer distances.

Moving up to the 14.1 megapixel L120, users will find a 21x optical zoom Nikkor lens for a variety of shooting options whether you’re viewing a mountain range or as close as 1cm to your subject.

The L120 is equipped with a 3-inch LCD screen with a wide viewing angle to easily frame and review images even in bright sunny conditions.

It is also possible to record high definition movies with stereo sound while the built-in HDMI connectors means they can also be enjoyed on a high definition television.

The L23 is available in black and pink and is priced at $99. The L120 is available in black and red and costs $299.

In the P-Series Nikon’s latest releases are the P300 and the P500.

The P300 has a wide angle 24mm 4.2x optical zoom lens, 3-inch LCD screen and 12.1 megapixel resolution with a backside illumination CMOS sensor which enables every pixel to receive more light.

Also included is night landscape mode which captures several shots at a fast shutter speed before combining them to come up with the highest quality night shot without the need for a tripod.

It can also record full HD video at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

The Nikon Coolpix P500 has all of these features but moves up to the next level with a 36x optical zoom and the ability for more control with extra modes and manual use.

The Nikon CoolPix S9100P300 and P500 pricing is yet to be announced.

The Nikon CoolPix S-Series ushers in five new models – the S9100 ($TBA), S6100 $TBA), S4100 ($229), S3100 ($179) and S2500 ($139).

The S-Series maintained the sleek slim looks yet manages to pack in the features.

S2500 has 12 megapixel resolution, 4x optical zoom Nikkor lens and lots of features to help take a better shot including a Smile Timer, Blink Poofing and skin softening features to enhance the subject’s appearance.

Both the S3100 and the S4100 have 14 megapixel resolution, 5x optical zoom, a 3-inch LCD screen.

The CoolPix S6100 takes the megapixel count up to 16 megapixels and includes night shot capture and HD movie recording.

At the top of the line is the CoolPix S9100 with 18x optical zoom, 3-inch LCD screen and a new panorama mode which can stitch together several shots for 180 and 360 degree photos.

Movies can also be shot in full high definition 1920 x 1080 resolution which can also be played back via its HDMI connection on a larger HD screen.
