The Hobbit to be released with UltraViolet so you can enjoy it anywhere, anytime
When The Hobbit hits shelves on DVD and Blu-ray on May 1st it will become the first title available with UltraViolet – a new way to access and enjoy your movies anywhere.
UltraViolet will allow movie lovers to create a digital library in the cloud and access them anywhere and anytime.
Starting with The Hobbit from Warner Bros Home Entertainment, Ultraviolet will make it possible to stream or download your movies to a wide range of devices including iPhones, iPads, Android smartphones, computers and smart TVs.
The first step is buying the specially marked DVD or Blu-ray Disc which is clearly marked with the UltraViolet symbol along the top edge of the cover and with a sticker.
Inside will be a card with a unique UltraViolet code which can be redeemed through an online portal like Flixster.com which will go live on May 1 for Australian users to coincide with The Hobbit’s release.
Users simply register and create an account with Flixster.com to enable them to access The Hobbit from anywhere and all of the other movies they add to the UltraViolet library in the future.
Warner Bros Home Entertainment movies which will also be give the UltraViolet treatment will include Cloud Atlas and Jack The Giant Slayer along with select TV and children’s titles.
UltraViolet, while being new to Australia, has been available in the US since October 2011 with 9000 movies and TV titles from studios including Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox , Lionsgate, NBC Universal, Paramount and Sony Pictures.
More than 11 million UltraViolet accounts have already been registered worldwide.
In the near future it may also be possible for users to pay a small fee to obtain the UltraViolet codes for movies they already have in their collection and want to make the digital version available in the cloud.
