Telcos go to war to win more customers for iPhone launch

A war has erupted among the telcos in their bid win more customers to their networks ahead of the release of two new iPhones next week.

The release of a new iPhone is the time when many customers wait to start or renew contracts.

As a result Telstra, Optus and Virgin are competing with offers to lure new users.

Telstra is offering an inducement for customers to switch to its network with a credit of up to $450 to cover an exit fees from breaking a contract early.

This will be offered when new Telstra customers trade in their old smartphone and take up a plan of $70 a month or more with an eligible smartphone.

Optus has rolled out a humorous campaign with action star and Rocky IV legend Dolph Lundgren about “changing the rules”.

These rules range from having your elbows on the table and leaving the toilet seat up all the way through to having shoes on the bed and getting out of your mobile contract.

Like Telstra, Optus is also offering up to $450 in credit when customers break their existing contract to join the carrier and trade in their old handset.

Existing customers within the last three months of their Optus contract can upgrade to a new contract with a new smartphone without a cancellation fee and receive up to $250 for their old device.

Virgin Mobile has also come to the party with an additional 2GB of data to any customer who transfers from another network.

Existing customers can also earn this additional 2GB of data if they upgrade their plan.

These offers will be available for the current range of handsets as well as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Telstra. Optus, Vodafone and Virgin Mobile will reveal their iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus plans next week.
