HTC announces pricing and availability of the new Vive Pro VR head mounted display

HTC has just released Australian pricing for its highly-anticipated Vive Pro head mounted display which provides a remarkable VR experience for games and numerous other uses.

Preorders for the device have already kicked with shipping expected on April 5.

The HTC Vive Pro HMD will be priced at $1,199 and the current HTC Vive has also been reduced by $120 to $879.

Each purchase before June 3 will come with a free six-month trial subscription to Viveport where users can choose up to five titles a month to experience on the device from a library of more than 400 titles.

“With the Vive Pro we are delivering the best quality display and visual experience to the most discerning VR enthusiasts,” said Daniel O’Brien, HTC Vive General Manager, US.

“Our goal has always been to offer the most premium VR platform available and to drive adoption for VR.

“By lowering the price of the current Vive, we are making VR more accessible while expanding the potential market for developers.

“Whether you’re a VR enthusiast or new to the platform, there’s never been a better time to join the most complete VR platform available.”

The Vive Pro comes with dual OLED displays for a sharper resolution of 2880 x 1600 – that’s a 78 per cent improvement over the current Vive HMD.

Also onboard the HTC Vive Pro are high-performance headphones with an integrated amplifier.

The new product has also been re-designed so weight is distributed evenly for a more comfortable fit.

The Vive Pro works with SteamVR Tracking 1.0 and 2.0 so existing users can upgrade to the new headset only and still use existing controllers and base stations.
