Microsoft unveils Windows 11 with an all-new look and new features

Microsoft has introduced its brand new Windows 11 operating system with an all-new design and numerous new features which have been optimised for working, learning and playing.

The release comes after the global pandemic which highlighted the need for a reliable and resilient operating system.

Windows 11 now has built-in features and advanced security to allow people to continue with hybrid work and learning.

Microsoft says the experience for the user is more important than ever for productivity, engagement and to just deliver an even more personal computing experience that does not compromise performance or security.

DESIGN

On the design side, Windows 11 has a fresh, clean and softer new look which is immediately obvious from the new Start button and taskbar all the way down to each font and icon which have been deliberately created to give you control and a sense of calm and ease.

Start is now at the centre of the screen to make it easier to find what you need and utilises the power of the cloud and Microsoft 365 to present you with your recent files no matter what platform or device you are viewing them on earlier – even if it was an Android or iOS device.

SNAP LAYOUTS

Another new feature of Windows 11 is Snap Layouts, Snap Groups and Desktops which makes it even easier to multitask and stay up with what you need to get done.

These new features can help you organise your windows and make best use of your screen real estate so you can see at a glance what you need in a layout that’s visually clean and uncluttered.

It’s also now possible to separate desktops to suit whatever you’re doing whether it’s for work, school or gaming.

WIDGETS

Being able to access information at a glance is now possible thanks to the new Widgets which offer curated feeds powered by AI.

Widgets can now deliver to Windows 11 personalised content whether it’s the latest news headlines, sporting results or stock prices.

MICROSOFT STORE

The new Microsoft Store has been completely rebuilt and will now offer Android apps through the Amazon Appstore. Sounds complicated but more will be revealed about this in coming months.

There will be even more third party apps available in the Microsoft Store whether you want to connect, work or play.

SECURITY

Windows 11 will have built-in security technologies that will protect users from their computer to the cloud but without stifling their productivity and still allow them to share new experiences.

Microsoft says Windows 11 will provide a Zero Trust-ready operating system to enable data protection across devices.

Microsoft is also working closely with their OEM and silicon partners to raise security standards to meet the growing threat landscape and the new hybrid work world.

APP ASSURE

Windows 11 will be able to run all of your applications thanks to a new App Assure service that will help users fix any app issues they may run into at no additional cost.

GAMING

Windows 11 has been designed with gaming in mind and will unlock your PC’s full potential to optimise graphics at high frame rates and offer faster load times.

Windows 11 will also be compatible with PC gaming accessories and peripherals.

also on board is Xbox Game Pass for PC so gamers can access more than 100 high quality PC games with new games added constantly.

WINDOWS 11 AVAILABILITY AND PRICING

Microsoft says Windows 11 will be available before the end of the year with PCs with Windows 11 pre-installed also due before Christmas.

Windows 11 will be available as a free upgrade for eligible Windows 10 PCs from the end of 2021 and continuing into 2022. Your PC needs a TPM (trusted Platform Module) to be compatible. It is a secure processing chip to ensure your computer has a trusted version of the Windows software working with trusted hardware.
