Apple updates its popular all-in-one iMac computer with a powerful new M4 chip – and new colours

Apple has boosted the iMac that’s now powered by the new M4 chip built for Apple Intelligence with faster connectivity and sporting fresh new colours.

The popular all-in-one desktop computer is up to 2.1x faster when it comes to demanding tasks like photo editing and gaming compared to the iMac with M1.

Onboard is a 24-inch 4.5K retina display which now has a new nano -texture glass option along with a new 12MP Centre Stage camera with the Desk View and up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports.

The new iMac with M4 starts at $1,999 and will go on sale on November 8.

“iMac is beloved by millions of users, from families at home to entrepreneurs hard at work. With the incredible features of Apple Intelligence and the powerful performance of Apple silicon, the new iMac changes the game once again,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.

“With M4 and Apple Intelligence, gorgeous new colours that pop in any space, an advanced 12MP Centre Stage camera, and a new nano-texture glass display option, it’s a whole new era for iMac.”

The new iMac comes standard with 16GB of faster unified memory and can be configured with up to 32GB.

The Neural Engine that’s part of the M4 chip is now 3x faster than on the M1 iMac making it a more than capable all-in-one computer for AI.

iMac performance improvements with M4

– Families, small businesses, and entrepreneurs can fly through daily productivity tasks with up to 1.7x faster performance in apps like Microsoft Excel, and up to 1.5x faster browsing performance in Safari compared to iMac with M1.

– Gamers can enjoy incredibly smooth gameplay, with up to 2x higher frame rates than on iMac with M1.

– Content creators can edit like never before, with up to 2.1x faster photo and video editing performance when applying complex filters and effects in apps like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro compared to iMac with M1.

– Compared to the most popular 24-inch all-in-one PC with the latest Intel Core 7 processor, the new iMac is up to 4.5x faster.

– Compared to the most popular Intel-based iMac model, the new iMac is up to 6x faster.

iMac users will be able to enjoy the full benefits of Apple Intelligence when it is available in December.

Apple Intelligence takes advantage of the Apple silicon and the Neural Engine to create a whole new way of working, communicating and expressing yourself.

It will include system wide writing tools which can help create, edit rewrite text as well as provide summaries.

Apple Intelligence will also help users create images, drawings and emojis and prioritise notifications and emails to help the user achieve greater productivity and efficiency.

The new iMac includes a 12MP Centre Stage camera with support for Desk View to improve video calling and keep you in the middle of the frame.

This works whether you are in front of the camera on your own or when gathered as a family on FaceTime.

On the connectivity side, the new iMac has four USB-C ports that support Thunderbolt 4 for faster data transfers and to connect with external docks and up to two additional 6K external displays.

It also supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

The new iMac is available in seven fresh shades of green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver.

The back of the unit has a bold colour while the front has a more subtle shade of the new palette.

Each iMac also comes with colour matched accessories including a keyboard with Touch ID and a mouse which are now powered via a USB C port.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The iMac starts at $1,999 dollars and includes an 8 core CPU, 8 core GPU and 16GB of unified memory (configurable up to 24GB) and 256GB SSD (configurable up to 1TB).

iMac with 10 core CPU and 10 core GPU starts at $2,399 It comes with 16GB of unified memory (configurable up to 32GB) and 256GB SSD (configurable up to 2TB).

Pre-orders are open now ahead of its release on November 8.
