One of the most frustrating things about travelling is when your luggage goes missing but a new device will make it possible to track your bag in real time.

Unveiled at CES in Las Vegas, TrakDot is a small device that fits on your checked-in bag and allows users to track it with any mobile, iPhone, Android or SMS-capable device.

More than 26 million bags going missing from airports every year, according to SITA, from airports, which means a lot of valuables and personal items often lost for good.

But now once the palm-sized tracker is registered on the TrakDot website and placed inside a bag, information about the bag’s location can be sent to your mobile either by SMS or email.

It is also possible to locate the TrakDot on the company’s website or by using a dedicated smartphone app.

Now you can always know exactly where your luggage is located in the event of your bags going missing or being sent to the wrong location.

The app also comes in handy when you’re waiting for your luggage after you land.  It sounds an alert when it is approaching on the carousel.

TrakDot works anywhere in the world and with any mobile phone.

Several TrakDot devices can be linked to several different mobiles so it is also useful for family or group travel.

TrakDot will be available in March and will be priced at $US49.95 with a $8.99 activation fee and an annual service fee of $12.99.
