The new NBN technology that will improve speed and reliability for customers
NBN Co has launched new technology that will make it possible for service providers to improve speeds and reliability for their customers without the need to physically connect to the NBN’s 121 nationwide Points of Interconnect (POI).
The technology – called an NNI link – means service providers could immediately increase their NBN bandwidth (called CVC – connectivity virtual circuit) and identify their subscribers traffic within the network (this is called AVC – access virtual circuit).
This will allow RSPs (retail service providers) to scale their services to the customers faster than ever before and better manage the bandwidth they are offering to provide a better experience.
“The NNI link product, in concert with backhaul products from wholesale providers, offers a quick and easy way for retailers to increase their footprint,” said NBN Co General Manager of New Business and Innovation, Streicher Louw.
“Being able to buy AVC and CVC directly from NBN Co gives retailers access to the latest pricing bundles and direct access to NBN Co for support.
“NNI link is a great example of collaborative development between NBN Co and its customers: using NBN Co’s innovative early market deployment process, we were able to take an idea proposed by our customers, consult with industry, and launch a fully functional product within nine months.
“NNI link makes it easier than ever for retail service provider to offer an improved customer experience and co- developing NNI link strengthened our partnership with RSPs through collaborative product development and open innovation.”
The NNI link product came into effect on July 2.
