Today's the day you need to retune your digital TV

digitalretuneThe day has come to retune your TV if you live in Greater Sydney, Macarthur and Hawkesbury regions as some of the digital channels will be changing frequency.

This move will complete the digital TV switchover and also free up broadcasting spectrum that will be used for new services including mobile broadband.

To be able to watch all of the channels in their new frequency positions, viewers need to retune their digital TV, set-top box and digital recorder.

More than 1 in 2 Australian kids own or use a tablet

kidtablet2Tablets appear to have a healthy future according to the latest Roy Morgan Research study showing more than half of Australia’s kids own or use a tablet computer.

In 2013, more than half of boys and girls aged between six and 13 (53 per cent) were tablet users.

This is a dramatic jump from 2012’s figures which showed one in three children (33 per cent) owned or used a tablet device.

Moto X Android smartphone finally goes on sale in Australia

motoxaus2The Moto X smartphone, which includes voice control and advanced camera functionality, will be released in Australia before the end of March.

The Motorola device was released in the US last year and is now finally coming to Australian customers.

Moto X is an Android smartphone with a 4.7-inch display that was developed and manufactured while Google owned the company. Google has since sold Motorola to Lenovo.

Virgin Mobile doubles the data on mobile plans

virginirresistibleVirgin Mobile has announced a new offer to double the data allowance for customers who take up $60 and $90 plans until May 11, 2014.

The $60 plan includes $700 of value, unlimited standard texts and 1.5GB of data which now doubles to 3GB.

For an additional $7 a month users can add a Samsung Galaxy S4 to the plan.

Microsoft announces Office 365 for individual users

officepersonalMicrosoft has today released a new Office 365 subscription designed for a single user who can use the powerful suite of applications on a PC or Mac.

Office 365 Personal brings you all the benefits of Office 365 Home – which is designed for households and offers five licences for PCs and Macs per year on a subscription – but for individuals.

It can be used on either a Mac or PC and a tablet and because it’s a subscription model users will always have the latest version of the entire Microsoft Office suite on their computer.

More than half of mobile customers pay for allowances they don't use

acannplansMore than half of mobile users are not using their full monthly call, text and data allowances, according to the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network.

A study by ACANN in association with Choice and the Consumer Action Law Centre shows Australian customers are giving telcos money for nothing by paying for services they don’t use.

More than 50 per cent of customers who sign up for caps with a set amount of data, texts and calls are falling short of the limits they are paying for month by month.

Apple releases major iOS 7.1 update for iPhone and iPad

ios7hidden7Apple has released a major iOS update with version 7.1 now available to download and install for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

The update offers improvements for Siri, iTunes Radio, the Calendar and a few cosmetic design changes when making calls and turning off the device.

Also included in the iOS 7.1 updated is the CarPlay feature that will replicate iOS and some of the most popular apps in some new cars.
