SBS the first to launch HbbTV on-demand service

sbshbbtv4SBS has become the first Australian TV network to launch HbbTV (hybrid broadcast broadband TV) so it can offer on-demand content alongside live broadcasts.

SBS’s use of HbbTV means it can give viewers the choice of on-demand content, usually only accessible through a dedicated app on a smart TV or tablet, while they are watching the regular broadcast.

From today, viewers with a connected HbbTV-enabled TV will see a red button in the top left corner while viewing the SBS free-to-air channels – SBS ONE, SBS2 and NITV.

Amazon enters smartphone market with Fire Phone

amazonfirephone6Amazon has entered the smartphone arena after unveiling the new Fire Phone which is being positioned to take on market leaders Samsung and Apple.

Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO, revealed the Fire Phone at an event in Seattle and demonstrated the device’s new features.

These include Dynamic Perspective, Firefly and an advanced camera system.

Club Penguin teams up with AFP to promote online safety for kids

clubpenguinThe Australian Federal Police has teamed up with Disney to create a new online safety program for primary schools.

Disney’s popular Club Penguin, a virtual world for kids, and experts from the experts at the Australian Federal Police will create the free program called Online Safety, It All Starts With You.

It has already reached more than 1,200 primary schools around the country and involved more than 30,000 students.

Tech Guide Episode 101 live from New York

Stephen attended the device’s global launch event held at Madison Square Garden and got his hands on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S before giving his initial thoughts and review on the show.

The EMC Privacy Index is a global study which looks at consumer attitude towards online privacy.

The research shows that Australians are among the least likely to exchange privacy for online convenience.
