Scammers using missing Malaysian Airlines flight to lure users to malicious sites

onlinescamScammers have been using the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 as bait to lure people to sites that will install malicious software (malware) on your PC.

The Australian Government initiative - Stay Smart Online – has advised users who receive an email or link on social media to news of the plane’s disappearance to exercise caution.

Cyber criminals and hackers are trying to cash in on the worldwide interest in the story as people eagerly search the web for any news on the missing aircraft.

Sales of tablets in Australia doubled in 2013

ipadair1We love our tablets in Australia with sales doubling in 2013 to reach 4.8 million units, according to research released by technology analyst firm Telsyte.

The rapid increase in tablets sales last year has helped the popular device achieve a 40 per cent market penetration.

More than 9.4 million Australians were using tablets by the end of 2013 but Telstye estimates that figure to jump to 22 million by 2018 and exceed computer/PC penetration by the middle of next year.

Today's the day you need to retune your digital TV

digitalretuneThe day has come to retune your TV if you live in Greater Sydney, Macarthur and Hawkesbury regions as some of the digital channels will be changing frequency.

This move will complete the digital TV switchover and also free up broadcasting spectrum that will be used for new services including mobile broadband.

To be able to watch all of the channels in their new frequency positions, viewers need to retune their digital TV, set-top box and digital recorder.

More than 1 in 2 Australian kids own or use a tablet

kidtablet2Tablets appear to have a healthy future according to the latest Roy Morgan Research study showing more than half of Australia’s kids own or use a tablet computer.

In 2013, more than half of boys and girls aged between six and 13 (53 per cent) were tablet users.

This is a dramatic jump from 2012’s figures which showed one in three children (33 per cent) owned or used a tablet device.

Moto X Android smartphone finally goes on sale in Australia

motoxaus2The Moto X smartphone, which includes voice control and advanced camera functionality, will be released in Australia before the end of March.

The Motorola device was released in the US last year and is now finally coming to Australian customers.

Moto X is an Android smartphone with a 4.7-inch display that was developed and manufactured while Google owned the company. Google has since sold Motorola to Lenovo.

Virgin Mobile doubles the data on mobile plans

virginirresistibleVirgin Mobile has announced a new offer to double the data allowance for customers who take up $60 and $90 plans until May 11, 2014.

The $60 plan includes $700 of value, unlimited standard texts and 1.5GB of data which now doubles to 3GB.

For an additional $7 a month users can add a Samsung Galaxy S4 to the plan.
